April 29, 2012 - Thunderstorms

Last night's thunderstorms gave us much needed rain, but unfortunately Ochoa Produce was rained out of the market today. Karen's Kitchen had a delicious selection of bread, cake, preserved goods, and cookies. My son was thrilled to see that she had chocolate chip cookies today, so of course we bought some! We also got a jar of strawberry rhubarb jam, which will make a wonderful addition to plain yogurt for breakfast.

Today the following was available at the market.

Karen's Kitchen

Baked Goods

  • Strawberry Bread
  • Rum Pound Cake
  • Banana Nut Bread
  • Apple Cake
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Canned Goods

In addition to her usual widely varied selection, Karen had the following seasonal favorites:
  • Strawberry Preserves
  •  Strawberry Banana Preserves
  • Strawberry Kiwi Preserves
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Preserves

Change of Hours

Hurray for spring!  I was so happy to see that Ochoa Produce had fresh salad greens today.  Not only are they beautiful, they taste great too.
It was a chilly, rainy morning but we really need the rain, so I'm not complaining.  It was great to see everyone and my son was ecstatic about buying some of Karen's delicious cookies.  Today she had oatmeal raisin, oatmeal, and pecan.  It seems that her first customer of the morning bought all of the chocolate chip cookies that she brought!  I can understand why, they're delicious.
There are a couple of changes this year:
  • market hours are changing to 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Tasty Fixin's will be participating sporadically and only carrying perennial herbs, although hopefully Andy will bring along some of his delicious canned goods
  • Dogpatch Nursery won't be participating this year, although hopefully Keith will be around occasionally

Official Opening Market: Sunday, April 22nd

I can't wait for the market to open!  I've been craving fresh, local food and it's difficult to find outside of farmer's markets or CSA's.  Last year we bought a half share from Liberty Mills Farm and we got some wonderful food and met some very nice people.  You can find a listing of local CSA's and other sources for local food at the Buy Fresh Buy Local website.

I hope you're having a wonderful spring and I look forward to seeing everyone again this year at the market.
