September 30, 2012 - The Fall Market

It's been ages since I posted, but the market is still going strong!  My favorite part of the fall market is the fresh salad greens, although the fall apples are delicious too.  There's still a wide variety of wonderful produce and Karen's goods are always mouth-watering.

July 22, 2012 - Melon Season!

I've been woefully lax with my reports, please forgive my lapse.  Sometimes life gets in the way.  Although it was sprinkling and a bit stormy on Sunday, the market was going strong.  I didn't take pictures because of the rain so this update is text-only.  Ochoa Produce had a wonderful selection of fruits and vegetables, including their famous melons!  They have many different kinds and I haven't tried one that I didn't love.  Luckily Hilo is happy to give you a sample if his supply is ample and you ask nicely.  What a delightful dessert on a hot summer day.  Karen's Kitchen had a delicious selection of homemade breads, her usual extensive assortment of canned goods (most of which are delicious when mixed into a bowl of plain yogurt for breakfast), fresh cookies, and even apples, nectarines, and plums.  All summer long I'm thankful for the market each time I prepare a healthy meal for my family made with local, fresh produce purchased from people I know and like.

I hope you're having a great summer!

May 27, 2012 - A New Vendor

This week a new vendor joined us!  Phine Phinds Farm has various plants, both decorative and edible, not to mention beautiful Rose of Sharon, of which I'm now a proud owner of three, one one white, one pink, and one purple.  They also had greens and lettuce, and will have more seasonal produce as the season progresses.  Billy and Robin are really friendly, I hope you'll swing by and say hello.

I also got some delicious squash, a mix of patty pan, zucchini, and summer, from Ochoa Produce.  Hilo's spring onions are divine and I always buy plenty.  Hopefully we'll see cucumbers and the first green tomatoes next week.

Andy from Tasty Fixin's also joined us and he brought some beautiful bonsai, along with his usual assortment of beautiful perennials.  My next plant purchase may be a lime tree or two, they look healthy and it would be great to have fresh limes.

Karen had her usual assortment of delicious breads and cookies and we start most days with plain yogurt mixed with one of her delicious jars of jam or jelly.
