October 2, 2011 - Jacket Weather!

It was chilly outside, but I was happy to see southern peas, also known as cowpeas or crowder peas. I hadn't tried them before last year, when I thought I'd try something new and bought a handful. They are very much worth the work of shelling them! I steam them and we eat them with a bit of season salt, but they're also a great addition to soup or stew.
